While all of our Newton mattresses are made with Wovenaire®, a unique cushion spacer material designed for optimal airflow, each cover varies by mattress type. The Original and Waterproof Covers are made with 2 layers of thick spacer material that are quilted together to create soft pillows of air over the fully breathable Wovenairee® core. Our Waterproof Cover is a dual-sided cover that gives you one side of Breathe-Thru material for infants and one side with a heat-sealed, breathable TPU underlining for waterproofing in the toddler years. Additionally, we use a layer of chemical-free viscose material made from reconstituted wood pulp as the federally required fire-blocking material as part of the cover construction itself. This is a natural approach to stringent federal flammability requirements. This material may be quilted between the spacer material of the cover with a flap around the zipper or arrive as a separate inner encasement. Both constructions are completely breathable. The Essential Mattress has a thinner single layer of spacer material, with the viscose layer sewn into the underside of the cover’s spacer material. Each mattress cover and encasement has a full zipper for easy removal and machine washing, and are interchangeable on the Wovenairee® mattress core of the same style.
